Reading the board
What the board shows: the courts, who is resting, the round clock and overtime, grade tags and grading courts.
The courts
Each card is one court for the round in play, with its four players, strongest grade first. The card's top edge is coloured by the players' grades. The board updates on its own the moment the organiser starts the next round, and flashes so you notice.
Resting
The dashed Resting rail beside the courts lists everyone resting this round, alphabetically. A 2nd tag on the desk's rail means someone was asked to rest two rounds running because the night was short of players.
The round clock and overtime
The desk shows how long the round has left. When it reaches zero it counts up instead, in Overtime, until the organiser starts the next round. Finish your game; nobody is cut off.
Grade tags
The letters beside each name (A1 down to D2) are the grade a player is matched on tonight. A player paired with a fixed partner, or playing down, shows the grade they're playing at.
Grading courts and free courts
A court with a Grading ribbon is running a grading: its four and their three games are on the card. When a grading finishes mid-round, its court is free until the next round, and the organiser may put four idle players on it as a Fill-in; the card says whether that counts as a game.
